Blue and White Weekend 2008: Gospel Explosion Recap 13.07.
The 26th Annual Blue and White Weekend kicked off tonight with the Gospel Explosion. The event was held at the UF Shands Auditorium. Blue and White Weekend begins every year with a focus on praise and devotion. Phi Beta Sigma recognizes the need for spiritual enrichment and the Zeta Kappa Chapter offers programming that allows the community to focus on the source of all of our strength.
The gospel explosion was a night full of praise and worship. The opening prayer was given by ZK Charter member, Rev. John Cowart, Sr. of Abiding Faith Christian Church (Gainesville, FL). Kamia Morris (UF Miss BSU: 2007-2008) sang the Negro National Anthem and praise and worship was led by Pastor Shirley and Voices of Praize (Community of Praise Outreach Center, Gainesville, FL). Other performances were by Adora Williams, Generation of Destiny, Sis. Beverly, Jermaine Robinson and Gospel recording group Fully Committed.
For those that did not attend, you definitely missed out. Familiar songs like “I need you now”, “Bless the Lord with me”, “It’s over now”, “Praise is what I do”, and “To God be the glory” were all sung by the various ministries that performed at the gospel concert. God was definitely in the midst and prayers were lifted for all that needed a special touch from God.
Thanks to all that attended and participated. Stay tuned for more stories and recap from Blue and White Weekend 2008. Upcoming events for 07.14.08 are the annual Kids Day Celebration and Health Education Seminar featuring an emphasis on Diabetes.
